Nevada Permit Holders Shot Down as Foster Parents
Nevada is built on gambling. Yet some state bureaucrats think its too risky for a couple of concealed carry permit holders to become foster parents or adopt children. This is not rolling the dice. Were talking vetted and proven law-abiding citizens who want to love children who crave it.

High school sweethearts Brian and Valerie Wilson have been together 24 years. Since 2013, the Las Vegas couple has felt ready to be foster parents, and adopt. A denial letter from the state Department of Child and Family Services stands in the way.
It turns out the Wilsons loving open arms have been left empty simply because they exercise their legal right to bear arms.
A Nevada state regulation prohibits carrying a loaded weapon with foster children. This means even an off-duty police officer cant carry on trips to pick up a foster child. The current law requires homes with foster children to
store guns and ammunition separately in secure containers.
I am really heartbroken, Valerie Wilson said. I really want a family.
Despite the odds, Brian and Valerie Wilson are not folding. They wont allow themselves to be forced to choose between firearms and foster children. The Wilsons have just testified before the Nevada Assembly Judiciary Committee asking for approval of Assembly Bill 167. If passed, the new law will allow Nevada foster parents with concealed-weapons permits, and law enforcement officers, to carry loaded weapons on their person, and in a car or home. If not carried on their person, the weapons could remain loaded but will be required to be stored in a secure safe.
The committee did not take any immediate action on Assembly Bill 167.
Brian Wilson believes the current regulation exists because some Nevada lawmakers with power dont like guns or Nevada permit holders. Were talking about law abiding people here, he said. People that have had background checks. Theyve gone through training. They lawfully carry a firearm. They know how to be safe with it. Were not talking about leaving a firearm around the house where a child can get at it. It just doesnt make sense.
The 2nd Amendment doesnt require you own a good reason to own firearms. But in case youre wondering, many years ago as New York residents, the Wilsons were victims of an attempted home invasion. The incident changed their lives and made the couple realize it was they who needed to change.
Brian Wilson summed it up well, Bad things can happen to good people at any time. You need to be responsible for your own safety.
Ares Armor hopes good things happen soon for the Wilsons.
