Today is the marking of the birth of
the Marine Corps, Veterans Day is right around the corner. Even in the midst of
the swirling celebratory traditions, the world now seems empty.
I opened the door to my office and
stepped over the pile of mail that had accumulated from the past week. Minutes
have seemed like hours, hours have seemed like an eternity. I walked in circles
searching for something, anything. I have never been more acutely aware of the
human condition. I have never more desired what my conscious mind knows to be
impossible. Even now, as I sit behind my desk typing these words, it is
difficult to fathom that this is real.
You would be hard pressed to find a
better man than Jastin. I can still
smell the blood and oil that covered Jastin from head to foot, as he risked his
own life to rescue another Marine.
He was truly a terror upon his enemies. His strength seemed
unparalleled. His capacity for violence during combat was matched only by his
capacity for kindness during peace.
To complete strangers, Jastin would show a level of
benevolence and understanding that was awe inspiring. It was a regular
occurrence for him to bring home a homeless person to eat with us; he would
introduce them as if they were old friends.
This is my buddy Travis;
I am helping him get a bus ticket to Texas.
For Jastin, the war never truly ended. The burden became too
heavy. Last week he took his own life.
His war is finally over. He has found the peace he so
desperately wanted.
Jastin was my roommate and one of my closest friends, I am
thankful for the time that I got to spend with him. He was one of the founding
members of Ares Armor. He is loved by many.
Please keep his family in your prayers during these trying
times.
Sincerely,
Dimitrios Karras, CEO Ares Armor
