Mr. B. Todd Jones
Director
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
99 New York Avenue, NE
Washington, DC 20226 USA
Director Jones,
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I am Bryce Stirlen, the new CEO of Ares Armor, Inc. (Ares Armor, Ares, or the Company.) In November 2014, my company, Lake House Capital Management, LLC, purchased a controlling interest in the Company. Perhaps you are already aware of the acquisition given the past conflicts between the ATF and Ares Armor.
The purpose of my letter to you today is to express my support for your decision to postpone the ATFs proposed ban on M855 ammunition, reclassifying and redefining it as armor-piercing. I trust the added time will give you the clarity to see such a ban is wrong and unconstitutional.
I can respect your working under the directives of President Obama who appointed you. Still, I call upon your legal knowledge to uphold the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. While Im grateful more than 200 U.S. Congressional members challenged you in writing on the issue citing sporting purposes and the Law Enforcement Officers Protection (LEOPA) Act of 1986, l prefer to focus your attention on the core facts regarding the legality of M855 ammunition:
By definition, Armor Piercing ammunition is ammunition which has A projectile or projectile corewhich is constructed entirelyfrom one or a combination of tungsten alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium copper, or depleted uranium;
The M855 does not apply. The M855 bullet and its core is NOT constructed entirely from these metals. They are only partially made of lead. Therefore, reclassifying it as armor-piercing ammunition does not apply.
The above two paragraphs discussing the ATF-proposed ban were stated better than I by one of your own, Daniel OKelly. As you surely know, Mr. OKelly is a world-recognized expert on firearms and ammunition who served 23 years as an ATF Agent and Supervisor, and is one of the co-writers of the ATF Academy Curriculum.
Director Jones, I urge you to make another heroic choice in choosing American rights over politically-motivated wrongs. Shelf the proposed ammunition ban permanently. But please don't do it for me. Stop it to join the ranks of other American Heroes: our Ares Armor customers including many U.S. Military Veterans, the proud U. S. Veterans on our Company Team, and last but not least, our Nation's Forefathers, all who risked their lives and everything they had to protect the freedoms like the one the ATF is trying to take away.
Sincerely,
Bryce Stirlen, CEO
