I own 80% lowers in about every feasible alloy or polymer available. A jig is not essential, but without a LOT of money invested in expensive tooling it's foolish to even contemplate trying to finish a lower that will be functional, much less safe. I have about as many jigs as I have different types of lowers. I have mills and presses, bits and taps, dies and end mills, etc. But without a tested and known good CNC and a redundantly checked G-code for your lower, it's best to use a jig. This is singularly the finest example and execution of a jig I've seen yet, period. I'll restate for clarity, my hands have not touched anything superior. At best, and a much greater expense, half the quality. If you're going to do an Ares 80% .308, buy it. If you do not already have all the endmills and bits, I strongly suggest purchasing those too.

Awesome product! High precision, well built, Excellent instructions! Hole spacers are amazingly strong! Easy to use! I used a Grizzly mill with DRO. Drilled out the bulk and then milled to finish. Took my time and it came out beautifully! I am a software developer and this is only the 2nd time I have used my mill. 'Nuff Said! Excellent Customer Service and Tech Support! I'm trying to come up with an excuse to build another!
