  • 30 Degree Variable Selector Positions
  • American Made High Quality Fasteners
  • Steel Shaft
  • High Strength Polymer Levers
  • Includes 1 short and 1 long lever

  • ALL AMERICAN MADE

The 3% symbol that is placed on the Gavel is to represent the number of people it takes to make a real change in our nation.

The Gavel
represents the choice that is made when the safety is placed into the fire position. Taking of life is a heavy responsibility and the judgement of the shooter should be beyond reproach once that choice is made!

Great

By: Wellarmedlamb on 08/03/2015 03:08:11 PM

I'm very surprised to be saying this but I like this more than th3 strike industries ambi-selector kit! It's nice and liteweight, great price and dropped right in.

Ares Gavel Safety

Picked this safety up a few days ago and thought it felt really weird at first, but I quickly got used to its unique design. The design is great, easy to operate, and installs really easily! I like the "Gavel" on the one side and the "III" on the other. However, I do wish they offered FDE to match up with the rest of my AR. Also wish Ares made other lever lengths and designs available

Gavel Selctors

Purchased two sets, but only installed one. The concept is nice, but the levers & splines are plastic and seem flimsy. I feel that repeated handling and use will damage or strip them. I had to lube the selector to get it to move without resistance, but it is not as smooth engaging as the standard Mil-spec which I removed. It would be a great product if all tooled steel construction.

Great selector for the money. I prefer this to the Noveske and Hera ambi selectors. The Hera arms seem flimsy, and the Noveske do not fit well. I gave it a four for quality as I'd prefer metal arms over polymer. I'd also pay another $15 if they were metal. I would definitely pick up another for the next build.

Better than BADASS

By: Wes in NC on 08/10/2014 10:43:17 PM

I bought this on a whim to compare to my BADASS selector I have on another rifle. This this thing is well made with many options on how to set your short throw to your preferred position. It is manufactured well, and the materials seem to be as durable as all its competition. The short throw is very fast and more efficient than a standard selector. The BADASS I have (which I mention bc it seems to be an internet favorite) is around $15-20 more and isn't as well made, and even has some left to right play. Overall, if you are looking for an ambi-selector this is the best value on the market.

Gavel Safety Selector

By: Hunter on 02/18/2014 06:38:32 PM

I got to see some of the products from Ares Armor first hand at SHOT this year and have recently installed the Gavel safety selector and was immediately very pleased with this piece of kit. This is an excellent addition and provides a very fast transition from safe to fire without having to change hand position or come off the weapon while pivoting or driving the rifle. The way that the selector fits is also firm minimizing the chance of a negligent discharge despite the shortened distance from safe to fire (it has a similar feel to an HK). The selector itself has a good feel and offers a good size surface for you to engage or disengage the safety. The ability to change the orientation of the selector by 30 degree increments also is a cool feature that helps use the selector with either the thumb or forefinger. This is overall an excellent upgrade and I have recommended it to everyone I know. Order #:ORD1391886209

Customize you lever

By: Nelson on 02/13/2014 08:29:57 PM

Ok, here's my review on the newly rolled out Ambidextrous safety "Gavel" from Ares Armor, order #ORD1392169743. I saw Ares's video post from the Shot show in Vegas. Right off the bat I was intrigued by the design and functionality of the selector. A little background on my rig: AR-15 built with a 80% lower from Ares using an ERGO grip. With this setup I run, I have a bit of a problem with the current "standard" ambidextrous selector due to the beaver tail that the ERGO grip has. You see my problem isn't so much the beaver tail, it's my hand that's the problem,, I have a small overall grip. Having such a disadvantage makes coming off of "fire" (or as Ares would rather call "Sentenced") a bit cumbersome with a 90 degree throw. Enter Ares' "GAVEL"! This ambidextrous short throw lever was the answer I was looking for! The 55 degree throw was the solution that I needed,,, but that's not what makes this hammer of justice great, it's the fact that I have full control of set up as to what position I set the lever at in increments of 30 degrees. The lever lengths are .4" with a "3%" Roman Numeral (representing the 3% of population that fought in the Revolutionary War at any given time) molded onto it and .6" with the word "GAVEL", both which are interchangeable on which side you prefer them to be on. I find the short lever with the combination of the 55 degree short throw to be especially useful due to my small grip. I have the short lever on the right side (ejection port side) offset at a 45 degree angle off of safe. This helps me come off of "Sentenced"(Fire) more easily and quickly with my index finger. My conclusion is that the design and functionality of the lever has greatly enhanced my ability to safe my boom stick. The down fall and only gripe with this product is that while the engaging shaft is made out of metal, the levers themselves aren't, they are made out of polymer. Now you may be a fan of polymer and I realize that it helps reduce overall weight,, I'm not,, I'm a traditionalist by nature and am very much in favor or all metal parts for moving pieces. However, I will keep this lever on my rig and I HIGHLY recommend this product who wants things put together THEIR way. If you're in the market for fully adjustable setup up,,,, The GAVEL by Ares Armor is for you. https://aresarmor.com/store/Item/gavel_ambidextrous_safety Nelson V

Gavel Safety

By: jbur on 02/11/2014 06:30:45 PM

Product came quickly and well packaged like all Ares Armor products I have ordered. As for the Safety initial inspection of the kit, seemed well made and high quality. I'm with some people that polymer is a sometimes feels a little cheap, but that is just a bias that is not really rooted in any fact. The directions were vague, but with a little thinking, installation is not rocket science (or just google it). Once in the safety is solid and the short throw is fast. I like two difference length levers, that is one of my biggest complaint with most Ambi safeties is the throw digs into my hand on the off side. Overall great product. Good quality. My only complaint is price point seems a little high to me. But Then again the other adjustable Ambi safetys are around $50. The fixed ones are $25-30.... Overall definitely recommend as an upgrade or as part of a build.

The Gavel

By: gnilsson on 02/01/2014 09:50:55 AM

After seeing the video I didn't think much of it. I was passing by the new store and decided to stop in and take a look. After hands on with the in-store demo I decided to install on my .308 LR. Install instuctions were lacking on shaft placement, but with some common sense installation was easy. I was initially annoyed that my trigger finger kept getting hit when putting in the fire position (I'm right handed) but this was easily fixed by repositioning of the lever on the right side. i was suprised while at the range that I can engage and disengage safety with both thumb and trigger finger which was an unexpected bonus. This has a fairly natural feel to it. I do think if a metal option for the levers were available this would have given the Gavel a "better feel". I have nothing against polymers but do feel the levers feel a bit too plastic and thus the reason for the 4 stars. I do however recommend this upgrade to any AR.

The Gavel Short Throw Safety

By: snowolf93 on 01/26/2014 04:37:28 PM

After 22 Years of military service, shooting M16s and M4s, I finally decided to build my own AR-15. As I began shopping for and acquiring parts to start my build, I had very little knowledge about each individual part. I was basically looking for the best quality parts I could afford at a quality price. I am fortunate to have a coworker who is not only a Soldier but also an avid gunsmith. He has assisted me in making my product choices and so far, I am pleased. With that said, though I had not given much thought to an ambidextrous safety lever, nor did I know much about "short throw. I was impressed with the video and the capability that this safety lever presented. The idea of the the ability to have such a wide degree of choice for the position of the safe/"sentence" lever intrigued me. I did a quick internet query of the short throw switch and found that there were only a few manufacturers out there, and some would only work if modified first. I think one selling point of The Gavel was that no modification was necessary. So when I got the email notification that this was available, I didn't hesitate to order right away. With my build scheduled to take place in a few days, it arrived just in time. Here are my observations: Order Date: 22 Jan 2014 Arrival Date: 24 Jan 2014, one day earlier than originally expected. Packaging/Appearance: Packaging was secure and unopened. The Gavel was new in the box. All parts appeared to be present and a small Allen wrench was included. Instructions: Since I have never built an AR and have no experience as an armored, I did review the instructions. I did note both the warning to have a licensed armored install and to use at my own risk. Ok duly noted! The instructions seemed to be straight forward however I would recommend using the reverse of the packaging and increasing the size of the installation instructions to 1) make the pictures / diagrams larger and easier to see, and 2) maybe provide enough room to have a description of each step under each picture. Construction/Durability: The safety selector shaft is steel and appears to be sturdy. Selector switches have great detail and look great against the cerakote burnt bronze lower. Installation: The most difficult part of installing this selector was inserting the shaft. The lower is a Palmetto State Armory with their classic lower build kit. I suspect that the trigger was not quite in MIL Spec, but with a little elbow grease, I managed to get it into place. Then it was just a matter of placing the levers where I wanted them. They are at about a 45 degree angle. I like that my thumb rests on the lever, and switching to fire is quick and amazingly comfortable. I had my reservations as I have never used anything other than mil spec selector levers. All in all, I am very happy with this product, and I believe it will prove to be durable and long lasting. Thanks for a great product! /Users/Megan/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Previews/2014/01/26/20140126-183650/%R6PyRoYSO+qBC4krFFlhg/securedownload.jpg
